A Manhattan jury convicted Donald Trump on 30 May 2024 of falsifying business records to conceal a payment made during the 2016 campaign. It was the first criminal conviction of an American president, former or sitting. He was sentenced to an unconditional discharge in January 2025, days before taking office, and won the election in between.
