Nvidia passed a trillion dollars in June 2023, three trillion in June 2024, and briefly became the most valuable listed company on earth. It supplies the great majority of the chips on which large AI models are trained. The concentration of an entire technology boom in one firm's supply chain — itself dependent on a single Taiwanese foundry — became a standing systemic risk.
