On 17 and 18 September 2024 pagers and then walkie-talkies carried by Hezbollah members detonated at the same moment across Lebanon and Syria, killing about 40 people including children and wounding some 3,000. Israel had compromised the supply chain years earlier. It was among the most elaborate sabotage operations ever mounted, and raised unresolved questions about booby-trapping consumer goods under the law of armed conflict.
