Awarded on 10 October 2024 for prose the academy called intensely poetic and confronting historical trauma, notably the Gwangju uprising in Human Acts and the Jeju massacres in We Do Not Part. Her books sold over a million copies in South Korea within a week. Earlier laureates in this period were Abdulrazak Gurnah, Annie Ernaux, Jon Fosse and, in 2025, Laszlo Krasznahorkai.
