Romania's Constitutional Court annulled the first round on 6 December 2024 after declassified intelligence described a coordinated influence operation that had lifted an unknown pro-Russian candidate to first place. It was the first time an EU member annulled a national election over online interference. The rerun in May 2025 was won by the pro-European mayor of Bucharest.
