Notre-Dame de Paris reopened on 7 December 2024, five years and eight months after the roof and spire burned. About 2,000 oaks were felled to rebuild the timber frame by medieval method, and the cleaning revealed limestone and paintwork that eight centuries of soot had hidden. Nearly a billion euros was raised in donations within days of the fire.
