On 26 September 2022 a series of blasts ruptured three of the four Nord Stream pipes in the Baltic, releasing the largest single burst of methane ever recorded. Seismographs in Sweden and Denmark registered the explosions. Responsibility has never been formally established; German investigators later charged a Ukrainian diving team, an account Kyiv denies.
