Released 14 March 2023, GPT-4 scored in the 90th percentile on the Uniform Bar Examination and accepted images as well as text. OpenAI published no details of its size, training data or architecture, ending the field's convention of open technical reporting. A week later thousands signed an open letter calling for a six-month pause on larger training runs; no pause occurred.
