Patrons of the Stonewall Inn fight back against a routine raid in June 1969, and days of unrest follow. Homosexuality was criminalised across most of the world and classified as a mental illness until 1973 in the US. The following decades bring decriminalisation, anti-discrimination law and same-sex marriage in dozens of countries — and it remains criminalised in around sixty, punishable by death in some.
