Second-wave feminism

Beauvoir's Second Sex in 1949 and Friedan's Feminine Mystique in 1963 open a movement that wins equal pay legislation, anti-discrimination law, marital rape recognition, refuges, and access to contraception and abortion across much of the industrialised world through the 1960s and 70s. It was criticised from within for centring white middle-class concerns, a critique that produced intersectional analysis in the decades after.
