Apollo 11 lands on 20 July 1969 with about twenty-five seconds of fuel remaining, after Armstrong took manual control to avoid a boulder field and the guidance computer threw alarms it had been designed to survive. Margaret Hamilton's software prioritised critical tasks and kept the landing alive. Twelve people walked on the Moon between 1969 and 1972, and nobody has been back since.
