Rachel Carson publishes in 1962, documenting how DDT accumulates through food chains and thins the eggshells of raptors, and arguing that the burden of proof should lie with those introducing chemicals. The chemical industry attacked her personally and her science held. DDT was banned in the US in 1972, the EPA was created in 1970, and the first Earth Day in 1970 drew twenty million people.
