Filed on 27 December 2023, the suit alleges that OpenAI and Microsoft copied millions of articles to train their models and that the models reproduce them. It is the most significant of dozens of cases brought by authors, artists, musicians and publishers. The answer determines whether the corpus these systems are built on was ever lawfully obtained, and no appellate court had settled it by 2026.
