MoM-z14, the most distant galaxy known
A galaxy already blazing 282 million years after the Big Bang — the earliest object ever confirmed.

Confirmed spectroscopically at redshift 14.44, MoM-z14 is seen as it was when the universe was about 2% of its present age. Its light is dominated by stars rather than an active black hole, and it is far brighter than early models predicted galaxies could be so soon. Objects like it are the central puzzle of JWST cosmology: the early universe appears to have built luminous galaxies faster than theory allowed.
