Confirmed at redshift 14.32, seen roughly 290 million years after the Big Bang, this galaxy held the distance record before MoM-z14. It is unexpectedly large and luminous — hundreds of millions of solar masses of stars already assembled — and shows oxygen, meaning at least one full generation of stars had already lived and died before the light we see set out.
