The first image of a black hole
Eight radio telescopes act as one the size of the planet.

The Event Horizon Telescope publishes an image of the supermassive black hole in M87 in April 2019, produced by combining data from observatories across the globe into an effective aperture the width of the Earth. The shadow it shows matches general relativity's prediction closely. A second image, of Sagittarius A* at the centre of our own galaxy, followed in 2022.
