Held from 4 to 20 February 2022 inside a closed-loop bubble, the Beijing Games were the first Winter Olympics to run on 100% artificial snow. Several countries staged a diplomatic boycott over the treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiang. The Games closed four days before Russia invaded Ukraine, having opened with Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping declaring a partnership with 'no limits'.
