Holmes was convicted of four counts of fraud on 3 January 2022 over Theranos, a blood-testing company once valued at nine billion dollars whose technology never worked. She was sentenced to more than eleven years. The case was read across the industry as a boundary being drawn between the optimism startups are built on and the claims they make to investors.
