Ahmose I drives the Hyksos out around 1550 BCE and Egypt turns outward, conquering Nubia to the fourth cataract and campaigning repeatedly into the Levant. It is the wealthiest and most powerful period of Egyptian history, funded by Nubian gold and Levantine tribute, and it produces Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Thutmose III, Akhenaten, Tutankhamun and Ramesses II.
