A Hittite army sacks Babylon around 1595 BCE and withdraws, and the Kassites — a people of uncertain origin speaking a language isolate — take over and rule for some four hundred years, the longest single dynasty in Babylonian history. They are notable for adopting Babylonian culture wholesale rather than imposing their own, and for the kudurru boundary stones that record royal land grants.
