Mitanni dominates northern Syria and Mesopotamia from around 1500 BCE, exchanges royal daughters with Egypt, and is one of the great powers of the Amarna correspondence. Its ruling class uses Indo-Aryan names and terminology for horse training, indicating some connection to the steppe migrations. Its capital has never been located. Squeezed between Hatti and Assyria, it is destroyed in the fourteenth century BCE.
