Jesus preaches in Galilee and Judea for a short period, probably one to three years, teaching in parables about the kingdom of God, and is crucified in Jerusalem under Pontius Pilate around 30 CE. Almost everything known comes from texts written decades later by followers. His historical existence is accepted by essentially all scholars; what he said and meant is contested continuously. His followers' claim that he rose is the founding proposition of Christianity.
