The revolt that begins in 66 CE ends with Titus taking Jerusalem in 70 and burning the Temple; the Arch of Titus in Rome shows the menorah carried off. Masada holds out until 73. With no temple, sacrifice becomes impossible, and the rabbinic movement rebuilds Judaism around study, prayer and law — the Mishnah is compiled around 200 CE, the Talmud follows. It is a second and more complete version of the transformation the Babylonian exile began.
