Castillo announced the dissolution of Peru's congress on 7 December 2022 hours before an impeachment vote. His own ministers resigned, the armed forces refused him, and he was detained on his way to the Mexican embassy. Dina Boluarte succeeded him; protests in the southern Andes were met with force that killed about fifty people. Peru had six presidents in six years.
