Signed on 27 January 2026, the agreement links the European Union with the world's most populous country and its fastest-growing large economy, after talks that began in 2007, collapsed in 2013 and restarted in 2021. It arrived as both parties sought alternatives to a United States that had spent a year raising tariffs on allies.
