From Brown v Board in 1954 and the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955 through the sit-ins, freedom rides, Birmingham, the March on Washington in 1963 and Selma, the movement forces the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. King is assassinated in 1968. The methods drew explicitly on Gandhi, and were studied and reused by movements worldwide.
